Money Matters: Before diving into the core, let me remind you my previous post about computer programmers salary.

According to the article(Taken from job Employment Guide)the average Computer Programmer salary is around USD 60,000. This figure is the average figure.Experienced programmer can even earn more than 100,000 USD per annum. Also, programming job is one of the top paying jobs in the US.

What kind of knowledge do we need to have before starting programming?

a)Computer programming is not a study of computer.Obviously, it means, we do not need to be a computer expert to start programming. However, It is always good to have knowledge about what you study. But let me repeate again, we do not need to be a computer expert to start programming.

b)People may even say "we do not need to have mathematics knowledge for programming." But trust me, mathematics is very important here. You must have general mathematical skill to succeed.Better take calculus if you want to be rational. Rational knowledge is important here.

c) Do you drink coffee? You may have to work a long hour even while learning.

* Suggestion lol : Its not necessary to put thick glasses over your nose to learn programming. If you already did it because of these letter fonts , then don't worry about what I just said. :-)

Computer::Computer is an electronic device which interacts with the user by the help of  instructions  called program.
Basic Parts-
1. Hardware
2. Software

Hardware: All physical parts of computer.
eg. Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, Disks, Printer etc.

Software: Intangible counterparts to the physical hardware components(Lewis & Loftus,Java software solution 4th edition). In another word, software is the information on hardware.

Computer Programmer Salary

The average Computer Programmer salary is around USD 60,000 with the bottom and top ranges hovering from about USD 35, 000 to USD 97,000. Starting salaries for computer programmers with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is in the range of USD 46, 000 per annum. Lowest paid in the computer categories are the mainframe programmers whose incomes are approximately in the USD 60, 000 per annum bracket, applications development computer programmer salary coming next with USD 65, 000 per annum and software developer computer programmer salary coming up at the top of the heap with about USD 73, 000 per annum. Not too bad at all!

Now what exactly do these computer Programmers do? They write programs that instruct computers how to operate in computer languages such as COBOL, C++, BASIC, Java, and HTML. Good programmers know more languages obviously because they can then handle a lot of jobs at the same time. Specialists in a particular computer language can choose to be either applications or systems programmers i.e. either application specific programs or programs for network and database systems. A logical and analytical mind will serve you well in this profession.

To be a computer programmer you would do well to acquire a four year bachelor's degree in computer science for entry-level programming jobs though there are other certifications which are useful as well. But if you have done your graduation in some other course do not despair - you can always turn around, do a short-term course in computer programming, gain some experience and you are as good as new. Experience is important and the more you work during school on computer program related work, the better are your prospects at the job. But no resting on your laurels after you gain your entry. The industry hires and fires rapidly. Since technology advances are so rapid in this field you need to be constantly on the move to be updated on the latest developments. Periodicals, training programs, seminars etc add to your market value or else it is the dreaded pink slip.

Programmers are generally a pampered lot who work in plush air-conditioned offices and an average of about 40-50 hours a week. Though there could be a rush during deadlines, you also have the convenience of working from home or wherever thanks to telecommuting.
As a software programmer you could get a job in any software development company, management company or be an independent consultant. Employment is expected to grow about as fast as the average. Computer programmers have a host of related professions they can go to when they wish to retire –from software producers to animation, encryption specialists to Management Information Systems Specialists – it is wide open for you.
